The Department of Psychology at the University of Zadar is a successor to the Psychology Department established in 1978 at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zadar. At that time, founding the Department was a bold and ambitious decision. It began with a small number of teachers and students, who demonstrated exceptional perseverance and enthusiasm in their work. In its early years, the Department focused on providing fundamental education in psychology and laying a solid foundation for psychological research. Over time, it grew and developed in terms of personnel, material resources, and scientific output, becoming recognized for its research work and high-quality educational process. The number of professors and students continuously increased, with the exception of the war period in the early 1990’s when only a few teachers and students remained, and studies were conducted under extremely difficult circumstances. In addition to creating generations of qualified psychologists, the Department has established numerous institutional collaborations at both national and international levels, and our members has implemented a significant number of scientific and professional projects. There is also a rich publishing activity and the organization of numerous domestic and international scientific conferences. Today, we witness the existence of a simultaneously established and modern Department that has become synonymous with excellence in education and research. Our professors and students have collaborated on many scientific projects, developed new research methods, and contributed equally to all aspects of psychology. While we take pride in our past achievements, we intend to continue developing our institution in the future, fostering innovations in scientific and applied psychology, and shaping new generations of professionals ready to respond to the increasingly complex needs of society.
